Aluminum stearate applications

Aluminum stearate is a compound that is used in many important applications, such as paints, lubricants, oilfield, cosmetics, and industrial processes. It is produced by the reaction between stearic acid and aluminum hydroxide, which can be adjusted to make a variety of grades based on the ratio and conditions. Some of the main functions of aluminum stearate are defoaming and thickening. Because of its chemical structure, aluminum stearate forms a hydrophobic particle which gives it the ability to break air bubbles and act as a strong defoamer. As an example, aluminum stearate is used at low dosage to create defoamers for paints. It can also be dissolved in certain liquids to produce a gel or other viscosity modifications.
